Presentem la proposta plantejada al concurs restringit d'avantprojectes per a la nova Biblioteca Municipal de Montmeló convocat per la Diputació de Barcelona Servei d'Equipaments i Espai Públic el passat mes de març.
El que més destaquem del terreny són els arbres gegantins que s'han mantingut més d'un segle a l'entorn de l'antic escorxador municipal. La seva presència té més significat i valor que l'edifici de l'escorxador. La biblioteca que proposem s'enten com un edifici que intenta aprofitar el magnífic espai que creen aquests arbres centenaris, i es tanca com un filtre cap a un entorn de futur incert.
Apostem per una biblioteca circular recollint la llarga tradició de biblioteques circulars a la història i entenent l'edifici com un moble urbà. Una capsa de fusta que conté, en el seu interior un espai màgic, un pati còmode, domèstic i tranquil. Un agradable espai on sentar-se a llegir a l'ombra dels arbres.
We present the proposal to the restricted competition for the new Municipal Library of Montmeló organized by the Diputació de Barcelona, Equipment and Public Space Service last March.
Which we highlight most of the ground are the gigantic trees that have remained over a century around the old municipal slaughterhouse. Their presence has more meaning and value than the building of the slaughterhouse. The library we propose is understood as a building that tries to take advantage of the space created by these magnificent centenarian trees, and closes like a filter to an environment of uncertain future.
We bet for a circular library taking up the long tradition of circular libraries along history and understanding the building as an urban furniture. A wooden box containing in its interior a magical space, a comfortable, domestic and quiet patio. A pleasant place to sit to read in the shade of the trees.
